
Mallusk-based recycling company Ballyvesey Recycling Solutions Ltd
certainly do receive strange items onto their premises. One of the latest pieces of machinery to reach the metal graveyard is an APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) in full working order. It is part of a consignment of ex-Army vehicles that was bought recently and has a massive Rolls Royce V12 Engine. “It purrs beautifully when fired up” says Dennis Monaghan, Managing Director “and has certainly seen some glory days in battle. We have actually been using it to flatten scrap cars that have been brought in. We bought two of them and have received many enquiries from enthusiasts and the general public alike.”
The origin of it is not known but it can now enjoy the peace and quiet of Newtownabbey where it’s present owners have offered it free “nursing home accommodation” until it purrs no more.
