A New State-of-the-art recycling operation, one of the most modern facilities of its kind on the island of Ireland and, indeed, in the UK, has just been opened at Trench Road in Mallusk. Ballyvesey Recycling Solutions Ltd has been set up to offer a bespoke recycling service to variety of industries and is backed up by significant investment, both in employees and equipment. "Our main aim is offer a customer focused approach to recycling. We want to provide customers with tailor made solutions to their individual waste problems, no matter what they are,"comments Managing Director Dennis Monaghan, who has vast wealth of experience in the industry stretching over four decades. The new depot, located on a spacious fully concreted three acre site, is managed by Joseph Monaghan, who has also served many years in the recycling industry in Northern Ireland. "Initially the company is focusing on metal recycling incorporating a modern car shredder and media separation plant, followed by paper, plastic and timber recycling. We also plan to substantially develop our vehicle disposal services, depolluting vehicles under the European End of life vehicle Directive," says Dennis, no stranger to the recycling sector having previously held director, managerial and consultative positions in some of the Province's leading companies, including P Monaghan & Sons, T-Met and Abbey Skip Hire.
Both he Joseph are Associate Members of the Institute of Waste Management and, indeed, Dennis became the first person from Northern Ireland back in 1990 to be elected National President of the British Metals Recycling Association. Having travelled the world on environmental matters, Dennis knows only too well the importance of recycling. "The implementation of proficient recycling reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions, helping to preserve natural resources and reduce pollution and waste," he says. "By recycling ferrous and non ferrous scrap, plastics and electronics, Ballyvesey Recycling Solutions can make a real difference." He adds:
" Our operation will not only help deter energy use and the resultant pollution, but will also create a market for materials that would otherwise end up in our landfills. As we expand our scale and scope in the years ahead, we look forward to asserting our environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices." Ballyvesey Recycling Solutions aims to quickly grow, organically and by acquisation."We plan to establish a network throughout Ireland and even in testing times like these when market conditions are clouding the whole commercial horizon, we can grow steadily to become a major player in the recycling field," says Dennis.
"To have the advantage of one of the UK's biggest transport networks as part of the Group will give BRS the facility both for collection of raw materials and exporting the finished product throughout Europe. With our visionary personnel mixture of youth, experience and professionalism we feel confident that targets can be achieved and a solid foundation for expansion will be evident in the months to come." The new facility bristles with the very latest recycling equipment, including a specially designed weighbridge system, developed by Avery to specifications drawn up by both Dennis and Joseph.
"It is the first of its kind in Ireland," says Dennis. "Fully computerised, it will automatically record every movement in and out of the site and will result in better efficiencies and a more effective service for the customer." Despite ongoing volatility, and provided there is no major deterioration in commodity prices and further constraints on customer liquidity, it is expected the future for all recyclables will be healthy and profitable for years to come.
"Market opportunities have already returned to ferrous markets and prices have risen in recent times. Also most of the non ferrous markets are once again liquid, albeit at lower trading levels. "It's vital to think long term and I see the future of BRS as healthy, important and progressive, keenly focused on safety, profitability, and demonstrating respect for the environment and the communities in which we operate."
